A scrap of red paper, a British Guiana postage stamp of 1856, which was originally worth one cent, is now valued at £.7343, It is the most valuable stamp in the world, and was loaned to the Exhibition of Bare Empire Stamps, held in London in December, by Mr-Arthur Hind, an American collector. The stamp's story was told recently by Mr Cyril Harmer, stamp auctioneer. "In British Gaiana the issue of stamps from England ran short in 1806," he said, "and a few were roughly printed in the office of a Georgetown nSVspaper. They all disappeared except this specimen, which, after being originally discovered 17 years later by a schoolboy in a garret, fetched its record price at a sale in Paris in 1922."
