CHARGE AGAINST OLD BOYS' TEAM. PROOF OR WITHDRAWAL DEMANDED. Ah alleged statement that the High School Old Boys' senior eleven deliberately tried to lose their match with Sydenham on January 30th and February 6th, attributed to a member of the Canterbury Cricket Association, has oaused a sensation ill cricket circles in Christehurch, and the captain of the Old Boys' team (Mr H- C. Burns) has written to the Canterbury Cricket Association asking that a special meeting of the executive of the Association be called to give the member alleged to have made the statement an opportunity to make an explanation.
A reporter of The Pkess was told on good authority that the remark concerning the Old Boys-.Sydenhain game was supposed to have been made on the field during a recent game. It was certainly not made at a meeting of the Association, it was stated. The story spread, and, it is believed, the Old .Boys' captain asked its originator to withdraw his remark. When lit? failed to comply, Mr Burns sent the foljowiny letter to til© Association: 'Mr , a member of the Canterbury Cricket Association, having ma do the accusation that the High School Old Boys' senior eleven deliberately tried to lose their match against the Sydenham senior eleven, I shall ho ylad if von will call a special meeting <"'t the committee as room as possible, so as to givv Mr nn opportunity cither to substantiate or withdraw his c.inrge."
Aii Important Game. I Ito inauh ill question was important, for it had a hearing on the qualitieation of teams tor the semi-finals in tiie senior competition, which Were started on Saturday. Old Boys were certain of inclusion in the semi-finals, but Sydenham had to secure a win to pet in. Sydenham scored 211 and 113 lor six ;md Old Hoys compiled 1,j7 tuns, the game thus to Sydenham I>v 54 runs.
