Power Board. The monthly meeting of the Asliburton Klectric, Power .Board was held yesi terdav. Present: .Messrs P.- W. Watt (chairman), W. T. Lill, W. H. Woods, ■ S. Smith, A. Horsey, }{. J. Mulligan, W. Bryant, Hunter Morris, W. H. Bundle, and J. W. M. Dart. The financial statement showed that the revenue from January amounted to £2444 13s sd, which was an increase' of £l3l 3s 4d over the amount for the corresponding montji last year. The revenue for the ten months ending January showed an increase of £I6OS 16s Id on that for the same period last year. The secretary said that the estimated increase was £1250. The chairman said that the increase was in actual cash. The engineer-secretary (Mr H. G. Kemp) reported that the total number of defective blue-gum poles replaced by 'ironbark during the month was 169. A nor'-west wind on January 23rd brought down nine poles, including two at Flemington, three at Ilinds, one each at Dromore, Ashburton, Tinwald, and Highbank. A further three poles were reported down on January 20th, and probably came down in the same storm. Prior to making recent replacements, a storm of the same severity would probably have brought clown thirty or forty poles. The running-engineer (Mr A. T. Saunders) reported that the units supplied by Lake Coleridge totalled 495,300, and those by the Diesel plant 1025, making a total of 496,325. The maximum demand on the station was 1317 leva on January 14tli, and 1225 kva on Coleridge on the same date. The Diesel ' was running for ' llhrs 4min during the month, for load reduction. The inspector (Mr W. G. Welsh) reported that the wiring for the powerhouse new workshop had been completed. During the month two ranges, four motors, four meters, and two consumers had been connected, making the respective totals 750, 1278, 5492, 3226. The reports weje adopted. In reply to a request from several country subscribers that the cost of power be reduced, it was stated the Board regretted that the applications could not be granted. Associations, and Farmers' Unions in Canterbury, which waited on the Minister for Public Works with the proposal that the cost of power be reduced from £lO to £8 per kilowatt, and that a tax be imposed upon all supply authorities. The Board passed a resolution appreciating the efforts that were being made to obtain relief for the farming community, and pledged itself to support in every possible way the future action of the executive. Hanratty) stated that Ashburton had also asked for a third grade match, and this was subject to further consideration. The Technical Club wrote protesting against the result of its match against Bakaia, at Ashburton, on February 6th, and stated that the match was not started till 2.30 because of the late arrival of the Bakaia team. In connexion with the protest, the Bakaia Club wrote that its team left Bakaia at 1.15 and arrived at Ashburton at 2.15, Bakaia being sent in to bat. At that time Technical had only nine players, and waited about for fully eight minutes for other players to turn out. None arrived, and Bakaia gave Technical two substitutes, allowing the game to start eight minutes late. Technical's captain did not interview Mr P. K. Brown (Bakaia) until 5.30 about the late start, asking then for extra time, which was not allowed, seeing that Technical was at fault for the late start. It was decided to ask the captains of the teams concerned to attend a meeting of the Association next Monday ovening, when the matter would be discussed. The secretary stated that the gala trustees had given a cup for the third grade competition. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to them. Mr V. Willis asked if more representative games could not be arranged for junior pla.vers. They had had only one representative game this season. It was resolved to write to the Canterbury Cricket Association with a view te arranging for n third grade representative team to visit Ashburton on-Kaster Monclav.

The Carew Sunday School picnic was held in the Ruapuna Domain on Saturday, when idea] weather prevailed. The visitors made good use of the bathing facilities. A very enjoyable tennis match between members of the Ituapuna Club was played on Saturday afternoon.

JRAKAIA.' On Sunday, evening a church parade of Rakaia Xo. 1 Company of Girl Guides and Brownies was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. There was a good attend an r.p of the company, under their captain, Miss V. E. Fox. The service was conducted by the llev. A. S. -Morrison, who preached an appropriate sermon. On Friday evening in »St> .Mark's schoolroom, a meeting of parishioners and friends was held to meet the Rer. E. Evitt and Mrs Evitt, missionaries on furlough from Southern India. The Rev. A. H. Barnett presided. A very interesting address on . missionary work among the villages of India was given by Mr Evitt, and afterwards many questions regarding the life and customs of the people of India were answered by Mr and Mrs Evitt. The Revs. A. S. Morrison and A. H. Harriett returned thanks £o Mr and Mrs Evitt.
