Chicago building trade mechanics, to the number of 125,000, have volunteered to accept a cut in thoir Union rates of pay for one year, starting on March Ist, with the idea of inducing a start on big construction contracts, which are now at a standstill. It is estimated that £30,000,000 worth of new construction was postponed in the last two years owing to tlie high costs and the difficulty oi finance.
