FIRES.
SCRUB AND LUPINS BURNT. About 1.45 p.m. yesterday fire broke out at the corner of Bridge street and Pine avenue, South New Brighton, a large area of scrub and lupins being burnt. The New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade attended and by back burning soon controlled the outbreak. EMPTY HOUSE GUTTED. An empty live-roomed house at 39 IJam road, Fendalton, was completely gutted by fire which broke out during yesterday afternoon. The Central Fire. Brigade answered the call, but were unablo to save the house, which is owned by Mr S. It. Bremford, from extensive damage. It i s believed that the fire was caused by burning rubbish. No particulars of the insurance were available-last evening. ST. MARTINS GRASS FIRE. Spreading into four properties, a Rrass iire originating on Mr D. V. White's residence, 27 St. Martins road, caused some damage to fences and a shed owned by Mr F. L. Donnelly shortly after mid-day yesterday. A rubbish fire was the original cause ,of the outbreak, which caused only about £o worth of damage.
