Mr J), l-ir-ese, a member of tbf* 'Railways Board, arrived from Wellington ypsterdnv morning. , Passengers from the north yesterday morning include! -Messrs Colin Monro and C. Rushboard. Messrs L. E Warren (Auckland) and A. T. Pasc-oe (Quecnstown) are staying at the Royal Hotel. Messrs W. Machin and H. D. Aeland were passengers from the north by yesterday morning's ferry steamer. Cr. J. H. Mooro was sympathised with at last night's meeting of the Heatlicote County Council in the death of his sietcr. Guests at Warner's Hotel include Messrs J. P. Macneil, I. Evans,-(Mel-bourne), W. A. Briscoe. G. Briscoe (London), and A. G. Graham (Timaru). Guests at the Central Hotel include Messrs S. L. Marks, R. Raines, H. Whyte (Wellington),' C. Kellett (Melbourne), JT. Duckitt and J. Bishop (Sydney), and R. L. Melvor (Timaru). Mr D'Arc-y Anderson, who has been a member of the New Zealand Insurance Company's staff at Singapore for. the patt live years, is visiting Auckland» Motions of sympathy with the relatives of Mr H. Pannell. an old resident of the Avon district, and Mr T. H. E. Munro, who died recently, were passed at last night's meeting of the Heathcote County Council. Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel include Messrs C. A. Ramsay, M. G. Dunham (Sydney), H. Credgington (Melbourne), E. O. C. Howells (Coventry, England), and C. Monro (Wellington). Dr. J. Hight (chairman) and Pro-i fes'sor A. H. Tocker, a member of the I'l. on.omic Committee which was announced yesterday by the Government, left for Wellington last night to attend the first sitting of the Committee to-day. Mr P. Selig, life member of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association and member of the executive of the New Zealand branch of the Empire Press Union, will leave on Monday for Auckland to attend the annual conferences of those bcSdics.
