DOBSON MINE.
REOPENING next week. THE COMPANY'S DECISION. 1 ho Dobson coal mine, which is situated near Greymouth, and which has been closed for nearly five months, will probably reopen early next week. Work tvas stopped owing to a dispute vpith the Miners' Union, which lasted for about two months, and when a settlement was reached the controllers, the brey valley Collieries Company, did not i nave sufficient orders in hand to justify the resumption of work. I can give no really definite information as to when the mine will re°pen, but I can say that it -will be at a erv early date—probably early next w „ ec !V sa id Mr C. C. Davis, chairmau ot directors of Grey Valley Collieries, to a representative* of The Pbkss last evening. 'Wo are awaiting confirmation of certain contracts and we hope arry on as Tlslial - but that will depend upon how well tho men stand up to the job," continued Mr Davis. Regular Supply Hoped For. /'We mine ceased work at the end o September, the men refusing to accept the only conditions which the eompany was able to offer, owing to the depressed state of the market :>ud lack o± orders. In the past it has been sua], -when the men stopped work, to resume as soon as they were ready, but unfortunately conditions of that sort, have gone. We hope that when thev resume they will realise that it will be ill' i" condition that the company t to maintain a regular supWOrk " svill be av^ilable. The men had two months of idleness before they agreed to accept the iiQ rnlS °"Sinally offered by the comL, "-': a ". d the company has had two nths in which to gather sufficient , ÜBinoss to warrant reopening the " iuic ' concluded Mr Davis.
