POLICE ACTION IN BOMBAY. DRASTIC MEASURES TO STOP VIOLENCE. (OTITXD PBBSS ASSOCIATION —BT SUBCTKIO TEI.EO3APH —COPIBIOHT.) (Received February 4th, f.lO p.m.) CALCUTTA, February 4. The Bombay Government has decided to adopt drastic treasures to deal with organised violence, which has become a serious menace to the peace of the city. Hitherto the police have aeted with the utmost restraint, and have refrained from firing on the aggressive mob?, but instructions have been issued to the police to fire on any crowds refusing to disperse. Replying to questions in the Assembly, Sir Evelyn Howell (Foreign Secretary) stated that since December 6th 1000 persons, including Congressmen, have been arrected in the various districts of the North-West Frontier Province, and the total now in the Frontier gaols is 10,000.
