REPORTED DRASTIC CUT IN SALARIES. There is a report m Hollywood—in gome' quarters denied——that the world's most ini-. pressivo • pay-roll, enriched with ' the names of beautiful film stars and famous actors, will soon undergo drastic revision (states 1 the London "Daily Mail"). There is a -whisper that salaries will bo cut 50 per cent, in an effort to bring down Hollywood's' £6,000;000 a year pay-roll. , Recently cinema owners protested vigorously against tho high cost of films, at- ' tributing this to the extravagant salaries paid to stars. They cited the individual' j instance of Miss Constance Bennett, who re- | ceived £6OOO a week. And now mysterious; 1 conferences are going on in Hollywood. Among Filmland's weekly salaries are' — Miss Constance Bennett ■ .. £6OOO Mr Will Rogers .. £5,000 (and a 15 per cent, guarantee) Miss Marion Davies . . £2,000 Mr George Arliss . . £2,000 Miss Greta Gar bo . . £2,000 Mr William Powell .. £1,600 Miss Norma Shearer .. £1,200 Mr Richard Dix . . £I,OOO Mr Ronald Colman .. £I,OOO Mr Ramon Novarro . . £I,OOO Mr Buster Keaton ' .. £I,OOO Among the players working by film, it is said that Mr John Gilbert received £200,000 for a four-picture contract, and Miss Ruth Chatterton £200,000 over a twoyear period.
