MAIREHAU CLUB'S MEETING There wer# good entries and good race* at the Maireliau Sporta Club'* meeting Jit the English Park Stadium yesterday afterson. A full programme of oycling events and several running events were run oft etftciontly by a good team of officials, and tlo handicapping furnished close finishes.. in ijiany of the races. < A wind, veering from north-west to soutnwest, made racing diihcult throughout the afternoon,, and no very fast times were re-. corded. A. C. Hitoliie, the holder of the quarter-mile New Zealand championship, lost the title to L. Pither, after an eventful race. W. J. Lamberton and H, J. Crofts, the other two starters in the final, lost their ohauces through a nasty aocident. Ritchie a performance from scratch in the fifth heat of ihe half-mil* handicap was also a splendid one, but he was not placed in the final. At the conclusion of the races, Mr W. J. Walter, president of the Maireliau Sports Club, presented the junior road championship ribbon to K. S. Weir, and the 70 miles Mairehau road championship trophy to W. J. Lamberton. A nasty accident occurred oft the far straight when Lamberton fell and Crofts rode over him, also falling. > The bicycles were smashed but neither man was seriously injured.
