The Auckland Presbytery forwarded a resolution expressing "its deep abhorrence at the shameful exhibitions of professional wrestling held from time to time in the Town Hall and respectfully suggesting that such contests be forbidden, in the interests of decency and public morals."" The Rationalist Association and Sunday Freedom League, which had been refused permission to show moving pictures in conjunction with lectures on Sunday evenings, wrote objecting to the Council's policy of permitting "brutal and degrading displays" of wrestling in the Town Hall on Monday evenings, while refusing, to permit wholesome and educational pictures to be shown on Sundays. •It asked on grounds of consistency that'the Sunday entertainment question be reopened.
