Her two-year-old production by Bobespierre was recently gelded, aritt will not be raced this season. Changs of Ownership. " In addition to disposing of Knocklong recently to a West Coast owner,' H. Nurse has sold Giggleswick, on behalf of Mr G. Hall, to another Greymouth sportsman, and the pair will race in their new interests on the forthcoming circuit. They will, however, continue to be trained by Nurse. Unfortunate Mishap. Mr 3>. H. Roberts, of Greymouth, and his trainer, F. Christmas, suffered a severe loss yesterday by the death of the three-year-old colt Convoy, brother to Bed Heckle. He was galloping on the plough in company with Elude, and wfum rounding the turn approaching the three furlong post, he stopped suddenly and his rider quickly dismounted. It was at onee realised that Convoy was in a serious plight and difficulty "as experienced in getting him off the course. Veterinary examination revealed a fractured fetlock joint, and aa the caad was considered hopeless, the colt was later destroyed. Convoy won one race, in two attempts last season, and this term filled a second and a third placing in four appearances. Always an impressive galloper, a patient policy had been adopted with him, and he gave indications of developing into a high-class performer with more age. • Blec&rton Track Notes. Owing to the absence of several horses in the North Island and the projected departure last night of some of the teams for the southern Meetings, training operations at Biccarton yesterday were somewhat restricted. On the Plough. Meprisant, Biri, Kakara, and Muff were each allotted strong work'only. . They were railed to Wingatui last night, . aad are booked to remain for the Wai-* kouaiti and Oamaru Meetings. *' Bed* Heckle, joined by Minerva! near the half mile post, strode over a mile in lmin 44 3-ssec, covering the last three furlonge in 38 l-ssec. Convoy and Elude were sent out to-' gether to run seven furlongs, but after covering half a mile, Convoy broke down badly and was pulled up, Elude completing the journey in lmin 32 1-5 see, the last three furlongs taking 40sec. Banelagh finished clear of Bon Jose and Pixie Gold at the end of six ,furlongs is lmin 17 2-ssec. Similar time was registered by Knocklong, who, under, a light weight, accounted for Giggleswick.

Coll led Martian Chief throughout a like task executed in lmin 19 3-ssec. The former has done well since being trained at Riccarton and should race prominently on the West Coast circuit. Verden narrowly beat Oratorious after recording 50 l-ssec for half a mile. Royal Amphora and Arrowmaid finished together at the end of half a tnile, taking 50 2-ssec, and Iceni and Segrave did similar work in 52sec. They were sent the reverse way in view of racing on the right-handed track at Hokitika. 11 Red Royal reeled off five furlongs in lniin 5 3-ssec, and Countermarch followed in lmin 6 3-osec. On No. 6 Grass. Royal Love, Ramo, and Solwit were dispatched from the mile and a quarter post, the last-named pulling out at the end of six furlongs. Royal Love appeared to be always going better than Ramo, and finished in front iu 2min 10 4-ssec. There was not much pace on early, the first half taking 54sec, but the last five furlongs were covered in lmin *8 3-ssec, and the concluding three in 37sec. Both carried their Waikouaiti Cup weights, and as a result of the trial, Royal Love is likely to represent the stable in that race. Grecian Prince maintained an even pace over a mile journey, occupying lmin 49see. He is to be ridden by D. O'Connor at the Waikouaiti Meeting. Silver Ring, in receipt of weight from Idolize, finished a length in front at the end of five furlongs run in lmin 3 3-ssec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. This was the latter's first serious task since meeting with a njiisliap on the track a couple of months ago. Loeksley finished slightly better than Weatherly after traversing seven furlongs in lmin 30 3-ssec. Miss Mercia had an .advantage from Ma Belle Polly and Balrazie at the conelusion of six furlongs, run in lmin 10 3-ssec. ' Northern Biding Engagements. S. Anderson, who is riding in good form at present, will pilot Atholspear. Weatherstep, Mister Quex, Arrow Lad, and In Vain on the opening day at Awapuni. A. Faulkner will ride Esteem in the Manawatu Cup find Sastrugi in the Palmerston North Stakes. R. E. Hatch's other apprentice, W. J. He was associated with Prince Val when he dead-heated with Historic in the Mitchelson Cup at Ellerslie in October last. Bred in New Zealand. Two years ago the Tasmanian owner, Mr H. P. Harrison, purchased two yearlings in New Zealand, neither being raced as a two-year-old, Now, one of them, Aslo ? by «Arausio from Matty, by Martian from Nantes, by Stepnialc, ; promises to develop into a smart galloper, He won hitf first race for Mr Har- | rison at the Tasmanian Amateur Jockey Club's Meeting, recently, and scored in ' the style of a really good sprinter. Although Aslo raced)"green" he equalled (}ie Elwick record for five furlongs, and he Bhould take a leading part in some of the more important events after Christmas. TROTTING NOTES. Reminders. Acceptances for the Greymouth Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close to-day at 0 p.m. ■ Acceptances for the trotting events on the Wynflham Racing Club's programme close to-day. Golden Pedro has come through a searching preparation for the Auckland Cup and he has pleased more, and more in each of his reeent trials. He stepped on the boat a very fit horse last night and with one good, fast run before Cup day, Mo.nday, the Tasmanian-bred gelding should be at the top of his form. In local circles Royal. Silk, Golden Pedro, and Pluto are receiving most attention in the early selection for the Cup. Trotters v. Pacers. Ukulele Lady, Nelson's Boy, and Olive Nelson are set dowil to compete against the pacers on the second day at Greymouth, as there is pot a fast class for trotters on that day. When competing against pacers they may be let out 24 yards at the discretion of the handicapper. • On Easy List. Bed Eagle, who was until recently trained by N. L, Price, has been taken over by her owner, ID. C. McDermott. At present she is on the easy list. Altered Flans. F. G. Holmes has altered his plans and he will now be present to assist at the Auckland Trotting Club's Meeting. He wjll leave for the north at the conclusion of the Ashburton Meeting on Saturday. Big in Condition. N. L. Price has taken New Metford in hand again. The trotter has built up a lot as the result of his spell, and he is now carrying a groat deal of superfluous condition. It will be some time before he fines down to racing condition. Track Work. A large number of horseß were worked yesterday morning at Addington, but in view of most of them having been raced recently the work was of the useful rather than the serious order. Muriel de Oro \yell. Great Author led Muriel de Oro most of the way of a mile and a half bout to pasß her. companion in the finishing run and reach the post with half n length to spare. The first mile was done in 2min 15sqc, and the journey in Bmjn SOsec, Muriel de Oro in forward condition for her Auckland engagements. v *

Pleasing Work. Morrison, Biddy Parrish, Surprise Journey, Tempest, and Golden Peuro set out in that order to go two miles, which took 4min 43sec. The pace was only on over the last couple of fur* longs and Golden Pedro got up in time to reach the post with a narrow advantage from Surprise Journey at the head of a bunch made up of the remainder. All horses did their work excellently. Belinda was restricted to a few circuits of strong pace work. Sunchild gave Coral Prince and Locanda Boy a start of three seconds over a mile and a Quarter, and lie finished an easy winner in 2min 50sec. Visitors. Sodium and Steel All worked nicely over a mile and a half in 3min 26 2-5 sec, rattling over the last half at tlieir best speed to finish practically on terms. Koro Peter showed to better advantage than did Cannonball in a mile bout. Cannonball seemed afraid to hit out freely and the hard, dry tracks are against him at present. Lohengrin, Actor, Sir Voyage, Netta Oro, Free Advice, and Edna Worthy all moved well in going a mile and a half in 3min 25sec; Lohengrin finding the pace too strong over the last stages finished several lengths behind. Sliows Good Promise. Norman Fox continues to please in his track work, and although he broke when working with three of liis stable* mates the break was accounted for by some of his gear coming adrift. Holly Bank (in saddle) was going better tWin Little Victor at the end .of a mile and a half run in 3min 27sec. Regal 'Voyage, looking in her best condition, was not speeded up, D. Withers being content to give her long,, strong work. With Coast Engagements. Real Boy moved well in the light tasks which were allotted him, and he is fit and ready for his Coast engagements. Germanicus was let off with work of the lightest nature, and Peter Daunt was given a similar task. On the Improve. Donard was too good for Salient at the conclusion of a mile run with the pace full on over the last quarter. DonarcF is improving rapidly. Gemlight, after being a little doubtful in his gait over the early part of his work, trotted solidly over the concluding half mile. George Rey showed a lot of speed when travelling a mile and a quarter, lie is very well at present and lie may pick xlp another stake during the holidays if he begins correctly. A Correction. Harold Logan's mark in the Canter- I bury Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's Meeting next week is 84yds behind, not 72yds as. previously stated. j j ELLERSLIE NOTES. j YESTERDAY'S GALLOPS. The going was excellent and several smart gallops were recorded. Among the Cup candidates, Taneriri, Compris, Gay Crest, and Admiral Drake all performed excellently, while Golden Wings, Ladjr Quex, and Llanore also shaped well. The beat efforts registered by the two-year-olds were those of Lack, Midinette, and Tout le Mond. All pleased. - Compris, Gay Crest, and Peter Jackson did a round in 2min 6 2-ssec, the final seven furlongs taking lmin 32 3-5 sec, and the last half mile 52 2-ssee. Gay Crest was in charge a hundred yards from the post, but Compris drew up to him and at the finish was ebout half a length in front. Peter Jackson was several lengths away, but he is not a good track worker. Great Star, alone, ran a similar dis- . tance in 2min 8 3-ssec. He is in firstclass fettle. ' The best effort over five furlongs was registered by Lack, in lmin 4 4-ssee. Golden Wings, alone, did a round in ! 2min 5 l-ssec. Beacon Fire ran six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssee. High Comedy is in excellent fettle for the Railway Handicap. Bronze Eagle (Gray), with Knight of Australia (McFarlane) to assist him over the first five furlongs and Heremia to bring him home over the last two furlongs, ran a mile in lmin 42sec. Thq first three furlongs took 3Ssee, the first half mile 50 l-ssec, and the last 51 4-ssec. Bronze Eagle went well. There was a strong breeze blowing at Wingatui this morning, which helped horses racing up the hill, and consequently times were faster. Most ol the fast work was done on the outside of the course proper, which was very hard. Royal Saxon was always going well within himself in running ten furlongs inside and is very well just now.
