PRIZE-GIVINGS.

— SPREYDON SCHOOL. A large number of pafents were present at tho annual break-up of the Spreydon School on Friday afternoon, when the opportunity was taken of bidding farewell to Miss M. F. Lockwood, who U retiring active por*~>eo after many years' teaching. Messrs Gilmour (headmaster), McKenzi-a, and X>i t* fort (who presided in the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mr T. Coulter) spoko in glowing terms of Miss Lockwood, and wished her many happy years of retirement. As a token of the appreciation and esteem in which Miss Lockwood was held she M*as presented with a Kaiapoi travelling rug from the eachers and scholars, and a suit-case from tho committee and parents. During tho afternoon the chairman presented the proficiency certificates and a number of good attendance certificates, also to every member of the Infant Department a book. Preceding the presentations a few items were given cT. *! 1<? different. Standards, a dance by Jean Skilling, and club-swinging by Ngaire Teape. BELFAST SCHOOL. The aunual prize-giving was held on Friday. The chairman, Mr W. P. Spencer, congratulated the staff and pupils on a successful year's work, and thanked all who had assisted the school. Complimentary reference waß made to the work of Miss Hookham, who, after six years' teaching in the school, is severing her connexion with the profession. The staff and pupils presented Miss Hookham with a crystal jug and goblets. Prior to the closing of tho cchoot the Standard VI. pupils presented their teacher with a wallet./ The , infants, after receiving their prizes from Mrs Spencer, enjoyed thoir usual breakup party. The afternoon's entertainment commenced wit-h the children's sports, then an adjournment. was made to the school, where aftenaoon tea was served, after which the children entertamed the audience with songs, recitations, and folk dancing. The North I.oburn School held its annual j.icmo at the Waikuku beach on Friday. X sports programme was carried ont during t lie afternoon. The aunual school concert, organised by Mrs Atdridge, was held in the Public Hall on Friday ovening. The takings amounted to approximately £lB. The accompanist was Miss Powis. The programme was as follows:—Song, "There's a Good Time Coming," senior pupils; song and dance, "Come Out to Play" and Sir Roger do Coverley, junior pupils; song, "Nelly Bly," Standards 111. and IV.; nursery romps, infants; recitaction, Edna Cole; song, "AH Through the Night l ," benior pupils; step stately dance, junior pupils; Flower Song, Carol Belton; song, "Shoo Fly," senior boys; "John Peel" song and dance, juniors and infants; dialogue, "Uncle Hiram's Cold," ex-pupils; song, "Springtime in the Rockies," ex-pupils; community singing; aunbonent drill, aenior girls; song, |'To a Miniature," Dulcie Casserley and Stuart Dunbar; song and chorus, "Tho Old Couple," Joy Crampton and Peter Belton; wheel dance, junior pupils; duet, "Oh, No, John," Una Banks and Catherine Aldridge; 'poem, Janet Belton; "Policeman in the Strand," junior pupils; song, "Maggie," senior girls; sailor dance, juniors; "Flower Drill," by the girls, followed by burlesque, "Flour Drill" by tho boys; epilogue, Zoe Aldridgo and Peter Dunbar. At the conclusion of the concert the prizes were distributed by Mrs J. L. Macfarlane, every child being presented with a book. Specials were awarded as follows: Needlework—Joyce Rogers 1 (Lyndon special), Una Bankß 2 (Miss Suckling's special). Lower Division: Fiona Whithanj 1 (the judges' special;. Garden Plots—Norman Cassorley aud George Hart 1. Best Athlete —Jack Smale (Lyndon special), /lest cared for pony ridden to school— Menu Foster (Sir Oearden's prize). Simpson, and Williams' special—Edna Powis.' Good attendance certificates were presented to Catherine Aldridge. Patsy Forbes. Noelene McJarrow, ElaiW Croft, Francis Creel. Bart Ureed, Gordon Forbes, lan Newlands. Pat Shelley, Noel Shelley, and Jack Smale. New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association's certificates were presented as follows — Learner's certificate (50yds): Zoe. Aldridge, Joyce Foster. Jack Smale. Certificate of proficiency (220 yds): Una Bankß, Joyce Rogers, Marjorie Oldman. Carol Belton, Edna Cnle, Joy Crampton. and Peter Belton. Certificate of merit (880 yds): Catherine Aldridge, Mavis Buchanan, Meryl Cole. The Rev. J. Newlands, chairman of the School Committee, moved a vote of thanks to Mrs J. L. Macfarlane for having consented to distribute the prices, to Mrs C. Hißg'ns and Miss M. Anderson, who judged the needlework, to Mr W.
