MOTOR-CYCL*! A*ND LIGHT CAR K , . TRIAL. 4' I _ ,:- t ; <s ■ A sporting triil was held by the Pioneer. Sports Club on Saturday for motor-cycles and light cars, the route being .from the clubhouse, Ohristchurch, via Riccarton, Springfield, and Porter's Pass to Oraigieburn and back, a distance of about 137 miles. The motor-cyclists were the first to be dispatched, the leader leaving at 9.1 a.m. and'the remainder following at. one minute intervals. Motor-cycles and cars were to average a speed of 28J m.p.h. to Porter's Pass and 22 and' 18' m.p.h. respectively from there to Craigieburu, the same speed to be observed on the return journey. A stop of 15 minutes waß made at Porter's Pass, both coming and going, the competitors being dispatched from there at two minute intervals on the outward trip, and one minute on the return. There was a tinied-hill climb on the. Pass, for which cycles were allowed 1 minute 45 seconds and cars 2 minutes. There was also a stop and re-start test on the hill, and for the cycles an observed river crossing on the Porter's Pass-Craigieburp section. The officials controlling the trial were Messrs R. H. Parker, F. P. Sprosen, H. K. Payne, G. D. Robson, C. R Murly, G. A. Hayinan, P. J. Butcher, C. Hayward, R. Lovegrove, H. S. Butcher, H. Brown, S. C. Forrester, and A. E. Hawkings.
