PERSONAL. (special to the press.) GREYMOUTH, November .'I. Miss Noello Dunford, who has been spending a holiday on the West Coast, returned yesterday to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs IJ. Stephenson (Ashburton) are visiting the West Coast. Miss Winnie Smith, who has been spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs T. H. Hayward, returned yesterday to Christchurch. Mr J. H. Harkness, Mayor of West•port, is visiting Greymouth. At the Reefton Croquet Club's green on Thursday afternoon, Mrs P. H. Instone, who is leaving Reefton to live in Manaia, was presented by the members of the club with a Bupper cloth in recognition of her services as secretary to the club. Mr E. 11. Stott, of the Christchurch branch of the National Bank, is at present in Reefton relieving Mr H. Bea, the manager, who is on annual holidays. He is accompanied by Mrs Stott. Road Signs. Mr J. B. Discaciati, president of the Beefton branch of the Canterbury Automobile Association, has received a large number of signs -which are to be erected about the Beefton district to afford motorists who are unfamiliar with the district a guide to the various points they may wish to visit. Supreme Court. In connexion with the stated intention of the Department of «?ustice to discontinue the Supreme Court sessions at Westport, the Westport Progress League has received advice from Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., that he is not hopeful of securing a continuance of the sittings owing to the little business being dealt with. Unemployed. Of the 350 men unemployed owing to the closing down of the work on the Bullcr railway between Westport and Inangahua .Junction, 50 have been placed on the Main South road below Waiho, where they are to be engaged in improving the road by widening and cutting out tortuous bends, of which there are a considerable number. They will carry out the work on the main highway between Waiho and Welielsa, A further 25 men are being placed on the construction of a settlement road on the south side of Waitaha. One hundred men are being placed on the extension of tho Lake Haupiri road into Kopara settlement. Sixty men have boon drafted to the Collingwood-Kara-mca road. Btmanga Band. The annual meeting of tho Bunanga Band was held on Thursday evening, Mr P. Wylde presiding over a good attendance. Considerable discussion took place as to whether the band should continue to function, the last two years having been discouraging. Ultimately, it was decided to carry on and review the position in six months. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr F. Wylde; vice-president, Mr J. Unwin; secretary, Mr W. Hughes, committee, Messrs C. Wright, D. Kendrick, J. Sheard, C. Pope, and J. Hillan; conductor, Mr G. Kerr; assistant conductor, Mr J. Hillan; librarians, Messrs C. Pope, B. Bae, and J. Greening; trustees, Messrs B." Smith and J. Unwin. Prospecting Association. A meeting of the Reefton Prospecting Association was held at Reefton on j Thursday evening, Mr T. E. Williams I presiding. The Reefton Unemployment Committee wrote offering to co-operate, and (stating the conditions to be observed, the men to be employed under a competent prospector. Messrs W. Kirwan and W. .T. Morris were elected trustees. Customs Figures. Customs collected at Greymouth during the month of October totalled £1657 3s lOd, compared with a total for October last year of £2304 2s 2d. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Greymouth in October were as follows 31; deaths 24; marriages -9. For October, 1930, the figures were: —Births 32; deaths 10; marriages 8. Rainfall. A rainfall of 8.80 inches was registered during October, rain falling on 18 days. The maximum fall was 1.81 inches on October Ist. In October, 1930, 13.30 inches were recorded on 21 days, the maximum being 2.48 inches on October 6th.
