WORKERS' EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

VISIT TO LINCOLN COLLEGE. A party of W.E.A. students and thoir friends visited Lincon College on Saturday afternoon. On arrival at the college the party was met by Professor R. E. Alexander and Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf. The experimental plots for wheat testing were shown to the students and the principles involved were explained by Or. Hilgendorf. The appliances for hand sowing and threshing were shown, revealing to the party the attention to details which is so necessary in any branch of research. Mr M. J. Scott conducted the party to the experimental area _of thirtythree acres for pasture feeding. He explained the number of sheep carried on defined areas and how this _ number could be increased by additions or straw and wheat in correct proportions to the usual green feed during the winter period. Professor Alexander showed tne party through the various laboratories. The maps illustrating rainfall, crops, cattle or sheep carried in the various provinces of New Zealand were very illuminating to the party. Before the party "left on the return to town, Mr S. Schofield, vice-presi-dent of the W.E.A., expressed the thanks of the party for such a pleasant and instructive afternoon. He stressed the fact 'that having seen a little or what was being done at the college l was difficult to understand how the authorities could reduce the grants for research purposes. Mr G. T/MoUer, ot Timaru, also referred to the research work being done at the college ana the need tor further research into other problems. .. Professor Alexander thanked the "W.E.A. speakers for the words ot appreciation and agreed with the speakers that research was necessary m tnis country if it was to continue to progrAfternoon tea was serv.ed by the college staff.
