»— MR BERT HINKLER'S PLANS. A VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA. (rXITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY KLICTRtC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received October 30th, 7.0 p.m.) MONTREAL, October 29. Mr Bert Hinkler has cabled to Montreal from Kingston (Jamaica) as follows : "Havo no othor plans at present than a visit to South Africa. My aeroplane, Karohi, is excellently suited for the task, so whether I make the trip is entirely dependent upon my being able to meet my expenses. "The Karohi took off from New York with 600 pounds overload. Bumpy winds while passing over New York offered the severest test of the strength of the ship. It was a most uncomfortable feeling until I was clear. I encountered heavy clouds, and a storm area at night about 150 miles off the mainland, and went down twice before recovering altitude. 1 had to climb about 80CO feet in the clouds, and found fine moonlight at 10,000 feet, which was a great aid to reading my instruments. "The good ship Karohi ran perfectly, and we landed on the polo ground at Kingston in time for breakfast." [Mr Bert Hinkler, the Australian airman, arrived at Kingston, Jamaica, on Tuesday from Long Island, a distance of 1500 miles. It was claimed that the flight set a new distance record for a Puss Moth machine, beatinsr that set by Miss Amy Johnson in a flight in a similar machine from London to "Warsaw.}
FLIGHT TO EGYPT. SUCCESS OF ROBOT PILOT APPARATUS. (Received October 30th, 7 p.m.) CAIRO, October 29.
