SURF CLUBS.

NEW BRIGHTON. The 21st annual general meeting o£ the New Brighton Surf-bathing and Life-Saving Club was held at the pavilion on Thursday evening:, there being a largo attendance of members. In the absence of the president, Mr L. C. liaison was elected to the chair. In moving tho adoption of the aunuiil report and balance-sheet, as published, the chairman espreissed the opinion that the fact that the safety of the beach had been maintained was of the greatest importance. The motion was seconded by Mr 11.I 1 . S. Taylor and carried. Mr C. A. Cooper said that the club had emerged from the past season with great credit. Some clubs had had a bad time, while the New Brighton Club had done a great deal of work and Etill shown a fair credit balance. The secretary reported a donation of a golden sovereign to the club funds from Mr J.I. V. Corliss. It was decided to send Mr Corliss a letter of appreciation. It was unanimously agreed to mate Mr Jj. C. Matsou a life-member of the club. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Sir Henry Wigram; president, Mr A. W. Owles; vice-presidents, Messrs T. O. Fos, A. L. Tucker, L. C. Matson, C. A. Cooper, and W. 11. Benson! honorary surgeons, D-s. W. E. Stevens and W. T. Glasgow; lion, solicitor, Mr A. T, Donnelly; hon. auditors, Messrs J. Aingor and A. E. Sumnieriield; club captain, Mr C. C. Cauldwell; vice-captain, Mr L. W. Clarkson; hon. instructor, Mr C. W. Smith; hon. treasurer, Mr F. S. Taylor; hon secrotavy, Mr H. Throp; Management Committee, Messrs Jf. McDowell, A. T Hughes, C. Ainsley, J. Broome. T. D Matson, W. Queree, N. M. Smith, J. Gowan, and 11. U. Smith. It was agreed to grant tho secretary an honorarium of £5 5s in respect of la3t year's work. Opening day was fixed for November 15tli. Beach Patrols. In connexion with the maintenanco of beach patrols, Mr Throp stated that tho appeal for financial assistance last year t>y tho Canterbury Surf Association had been unsuccessful, and the committee had succeeded in maintaining a patrolman for ten weeks. It was possible that sources of revenue which had beon available in the past would not be again available. The Ohristehureh City Council had made a donation of £SO, and through tho generosity of tho Sumner Olub, this sum would be divided between North Beach, Nov/ Brighton, and Sumner, for boach patrol purposes. The revenue in sight would last only five weeks, and tho committee would be faced with the difllculty of having to secure tho services of a suitably trained man, although they would be able to offer him such a short term of employment. Thanks were due to tho proprietors of tho miniature goH links at the corner of Beresford street, New Brighton, for having offered the club tho whole of tho takings for October 31st. It was agreed to send Mr F. D. Muirson a letter of thanks for his attention to the pavilion. Votes of thanks wero accorded tho chairman and the Press,

WAIMAIRI. The annual meeting of tho Waimairi Beech Life-Saving Club was held on Thursday evening, ivhi'u Mr A. XI. Blank was in tho chair. It was decided to hold the opening day on tlio first Sunday in December. NORTH BEACH. The annual meeting of the Korth Beach Surf Bathing and Life-saving Club was held On Thursday evening in the surf pavilion. In tho absence of tho president, Mr J. H. Shaw, Mr W. A. Smith (vice-president) was elected chairman. The annual report, which has already b«cn pvblished, was adopted. In speaking 1 to the report, Mr C. B. Riorflar (club captain.) Btated that the only bad feature o! tha balance-sheet was the number of outstanding subscriptions. It was decided to take steps to collect a number of these. Mr D. Y, Wilson moved in accordance with r.ctico given, "That the committee shall consist of the officers of the club and five other members elected aB aforesaid, five to form a quorum." Mr Wilson, in moving, stated that at present there were 20 'members entitled to Bit on the executive, and he considered that this was an unwieldy number. Wilson moved that it bo a recommenlation to the Surf Association that the Association go into the matter of judging of competitions with the idea of having more judges and occasional changes. Tho motion was withdrawn and the matter left to thn delegates to the Association. It was decided not to hold an official opening day this year.

KAIAPOI PINES BEACH. The annual meeting of the Kaiapoi Vinea Kcach Surf Club was held on Thursday evening, the president, tho Kov. W. H. A. Viekcry, presiding over an attendance of fifteen members. The annual report etated that the club bad held weekly practiced during the summer months, which had been Well attended and a successful dance had been held to raise lurda for the erection of a reel-house. Tile committee extended its thanks to all who had assisted the club durifig tho year. The report and balance-Sheet, the latter showing a small credit, wero adopted.
