MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Moaley, S.M.) TWO CHARGES. Thomas Willan, a labourer, aged 30 (Mr P P. J. Amodeo), appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing on July 3rd two blankets and a rag, valued at £3 10a, the property of Hilda Emily Ford. Ho was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, and ordered to refund tho sum of £3 10s forthwith. Later in the Court session Willan was charged that with intent to defraud ho attempted on October 16th to obtain from the Postmaster-General tho auiu of X'ZO 10a 9d by means of a valueless withdrawal 3lip for that amount on tho Post Office Savings Bank at Christchurch. Chief-Detective J. Carroll said the accused's father had an account in the Post Office Savings Bank. Accused had called at his father's house, while his father wa» away, when his mother had shown him the bank book. Accused returned the book and went away. Ho went to the New Brighton Post Office, where ho filled in a withdrawal slip for £2O. 10a 9d, and sent it, *0 the P<»t Office at Oliristohlurch. The authorities wero not satisfied with the signature, and when tho father callod to draw some money on tho following duy 110 was told about the first slip, which was at once cancelled and the police informed. Tho Magistrate said ho would not sentence the accused on the first charge, but on tho second one he would bo sentenced to sis months' imprisonment with hard labour. REMANDED I . Leonard Rces Wilkinson, n driver, aged 44, was remanded to appear on November 2nd on a charge of failing to comply with the terms of his reloase on probation. TRAFFIC CASES. Cycling on the footpath: William Henry C'orrigan 10s and costs; John Maurice Iflynn 10s aud costs; Daniol Strathdce 10s and costs.' Negligently driving a car: John Edward Bennett (Mr It, Twyneham), £5 and costs. Motor-cycling without lights: Alaa Stanley Martin, 10s and costs. No bell 011 bicycle: Frank Campbell, ordered to pay costs; George Ogilvie Pierson, 8s without costs; Cecil Davenport, convicted and discharged. No reflector on bicycle, George Ogilvie Pier--Bon, 3b without costs; Cecil Davenport, 5s without costs. Failing to give way: Sho Shun, £2 and costs; William Georgo Greeinvay, 42 and costs. Cutting a corner: She Shun, convicted and discharged. Driving at a speed dangerous to the public: Wilfred Brunette Myrhe, £2 and cost*. Driving with insufficient lights: Wilfred Brunotte Myrhe, convictod and ordered to pay costs. Driving without a license: Wilfred Brunette Myrhe, 10s and costs. Failing to report an accident: Hubert William Ernest Parsons, convicted and ordered to pay costs. Failing to signal turn: Hubert William Ernest Parsons, SO* and costs. Voluntary appearances: Maurice Georg* Morton (Mr V. G. Spiller), negligent driving, £3 and coßts; Dudley Campbell McArtlnir, cycling on the footpath, 5s and costs; William Goodman, cycling without a light. 5s and costs; William Goodman no reflector on bicycle, 5s witliovt costs. KAIAPOI. (Before Mr J. H, BlaokweU, J.P.) Oliver William Alexander Russall, who was arrested at Tuahiwi, was charged with forging and littering, and was remanded to ap-T-eai ut Kaiapoi on November 4th.
