WORKLESS WOMEN AND GIRLS.
MEETING OP COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Women's Unemployment Committee was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs J. K. Archer presiding. For the Cookery Centre, Miss M. Lov-ell-Smith said that the takings for the week had been £1 0s 4d, the number of meals served i>eing~the same as last week. v Members referred to the urgent need, for supplies of produce at the cookery centre, 570 Colombo street. Miss Lovell-Smith reported that there had. been 15 new registrations of domestics and three of factory workers during the weelc. Those placed in positions included one for sewing and one domestic. It was. decided that a deputation should wait' on Mr P. R. "Gfimie, as a member of the Unemployment . Board, to discuss the question of assistance from the Board for unemployed women and girls. Mr R. T. Bailey advised that the Christchurch Gas Company ihad stated that it would provide gas free of charge for a period of three months. . The Town Clerk wrote stating that a sum of £SO had been handed to the credit of the committee by the Commercial Travellers' Association, ,this 6um representing the result of' the street collection.
