NEW ZEALAND AND HAMMERSMITH.

TO THE EDITOR 0* THE MESS. Sir, —I notice in your report of the British Elections in < to-day's Pbkss you describe Dr. J. Douglas Cooke, the winner of the Hammersmith South scatj as an Australian. As a matter of fact he was born in Papanui, Christchurch, so wc can claim, him as a New Zcalander. He certainly obtained his medical qualification in Australia, and then proceeded to the London Hospital, where ho took his F.R.C.S. (England). He contested, unsuccessful!}-, the Peckham (Camberwell) seat in 192!), but I am glad to see he was able to give the knock-out blow to his Labour opponent on Tuesday.—Yours, etc., E. J. COOKE. Lincoln, October 29th, 1931.
