The sponsors of this plan are not named, but the story is freely published and discussed here that the United States could use about IOO.OOCtons of the latest model cruisers ana battleships -which she would swap for a credit of from £30,000,000 i« £50,000,000. It is suggested that this would enable the United States to attain early tonnage parity with Great Britain, and especially would the United States like to have the battle-cruiser Hood. [The battle-cruiser Hood (42,10<9 tons) is tho largest warship in the world. She was built at Clydebank, and completed in 1920 at a cost of £5,843,039, including expenditure oa guns—eight lGin, 12 o.oin, four tin. four 3-pounder guns, six torpedo tubes. Length, SGOft Oin, breadth 105 ft Sin, normal draught 2Sft Gin. Her speed i* 31 knots, oil fuel capacity 40tX> tons, active service complement 1341 officers and men.
