Many Improvements Made. ' The present slanditcrKouse is to be used as a cooling chamber, and the equipment has been installed in preparation for the • change-over on Monday. The Beef House. In the new beef house many new features have bepn included. The ramp is constructed with an easy gradient and ii equipped with drop doors throughout iti length so as to reduce to a minimum the possibility of bruising or injury to the cattle. In the killing pen itself there are two steps into the jhughterhouse so that after the man rn'th the hpmmer has done his work the feast falls of its own accord out on to the hoard as soon as the sliding door is raised. Use of Hammer. The use of the hammer instead of the former method of pithing wil be one of the features in the new working ' schedule,. Dispensing with Offals. By means of chutes to the ground Joor beiow the Toom is kept clear of all offal, and it is also fitted with masrive fixed' concrete tubs each having hot and cold water laid on to it. When the meat has been sawn the carcase is transferred to the cooling room and ' the saw worked clear to another part of the room by an automatic device. The" 1 working of this equipment calls for very line adjustment. Adjoining the beef room are offices, one-of them being for the Government meat inspector who is present during the operations. Sheep Slaughterhouse. The sheep slaughterhouse on the same floor is a model of neatness, finished as it is in white cement with poncrcte floor throughout and every possiblo convenience to ensure that the two boards and floor are kept clear of skins, heads and feet, and general offal. Chutes are provided to the floor below w in the.beef room, and again many patents are in evidence which facilitate tho handling of the carcases. One feature is a; patent scraper for tho Wood scuppers, which eliminates the necessity for the presence of a man Sweeping them. Men's Convenience. 'The most northerly section of the ■ new building is taken up with rooms : for the convenience of the men themselves. There is a dining-room complete a.hot water urn system, and adjoining it-are bathroom facilities, int ('lading shower-baths also supplied with i .•* plentiful quantity of hot and cold i waier.""' i ■ ■ The Offal Boom. ..
