"The Times" Berlin correspondent states that, displaying organised hooliganism almost incredible in a city like Berlin, hundreds of Nazis attacked Jews and persons of Jewish appearance in the crowded Kurfuratendamm, the leading West Ens street, They smashed cafe chairs and windows and created pandemonium. The dipprderg began near the Synagogue, where Jewish New Year services were being held. Brutal violence was- displayed, many passers-by being flung down and savagely bea,teji. Prosperous citizens, sitting in cafes, seemed to approve the disorders. Fifty roughs wero arrested, but most of them escaped, laughing derisively at the authorities and shouts irjg, ''Perish Jndea! Happy New Year!"—" The Times" Cable.' RIOT AT SPORTS PALACE. BERLIN, September 14. The announcement of a political debate between the Nazi and Communist leaders caused an excited crowd of 20,000 to besiege the sports palace on the Pqtsdammerstrasse. When the police opened the gate the mob surged in, and women were trampled underfoot, despite the vigorous police use of truncheons. . A free fight between tho Nazis and the Communists dev eloped in the court* yard, Sisty-(ive were seriously hurt.
