PERSONAL. (Special to the rsiss.) GREYMOUTH, September 15. Mr J. E. Williams left to-day on a visit to Christchurch. > ■ Mr H. Clarke arrived yestarday from Wellington on a holiday visit to Greymouth. Sergeant D. B. Murray and Mrs Murray, who have been spending a holiday in Christchurch, have returned to Greymonth. Mis? M. MoAra (Gisborne) is visiting Mr and Mrs Neil McAra at Omoto.Mr P. Kane, accountant of the Bank of New Zealand (Greymouth), has been appointed manager of the bank's Beefton branch. Mire M. Cuff, of Blackwater, who has been completing her course of training as a K&ritane nurse, returned from Dunedin on Saturday. Mian Letty McClintdck, who has been visiting friends in Greymouth, returned to-day to Dunedin. Mr W. McCormick (Melbourne) .arrived last evening on a visit to the West Coast. . Miss A. Mills left to-day on a holiday to Christchuhsh. Mr F. Kennedy left to-day on a visit to Wellington. Technical School. The Board of Governors of the Greymouth Technical School met last evening, Mr E. E. Coates (chairman) presiding. , Tho Accountants' Institute forwarded a donation of £5 towards the provision, of books for the school library. The head inspector advised that the primary physical instructors were about to extend their activities to the West Coast. . Tho principal reported that it was his intention to hold the annual exhibition of school work early in October, and to hold a bazaar on October 14th for the Unemployment Fund, the latter being in his opinion a good means of inculcating the spirit of collective responsibility of the scholars to tho com-, munitv. Cricket. The annual meeting of the Cobden Cricket Club was held on Sunday, when there was an enthusiastic ■ attendance, presided over by Mr C. Bose, Officers for the season were elected as j follows: —President, Mr F. Hugh; patron, Mr W. Kells; club captain, Mr W. Barlow; vice-captain, Mr G. Knapp; committee, captain, vice-cap-tain, and secretary; secretary, Mr C. Do war; delegates to West Coast Cricket Association, Messrs Barlow and Sandman; vice-president to Association, Mr A. Greenwood. It was decided to nominate two teams in the senior competition, and tc> open tho season on the first fine Sunday m October. _ „ , Tho captain, Mr W. A worker employed at Bransden's mill at Three Channel Flat, named Peary, had the misfortune to have his hand come in contact with a crosscut saw last Saturday, with tho result that a bad jagged wound was caused. He was brought to lleefton for medical attention. Discaciati Cup. The final for the Discaciati Cup, fpr competition by the Rugby juniors m the Beefton district, wag won by Waratahs, who beat Waiuta by 19 to S, after a very fine exhibition. In the first spell Waiuta led by eight points to six High Tides Hamper Traffic. Cars returning from WeStport to Grevmouth oh Sunday night and early on Monday morning experienced some difficulty in negotiating the road near Nine-Mile, where the exceptionally high tides caused the sea to break right

across the road, cars finding difficulty in crossing the affected portion of the road. One party returning early on Monday'morning had to rush their car over the flooded part of the road. Owners and Breeders. At a well-attended meeting of owners and breeders of racing and trotting horses at Westport on Saturday it was decided to form an Owners', Breeders', and Trainers' Association, and to affiliate with the West Coast Association. Mr F. Keating was elected president, and Mr Parkes secretary. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court was held yesterday Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presided. Louis Edward Grey appeared' charged with failing to maintain his wife, Florence Amanda Gray, at Hamilton. Defendant was remanded to appear at Hamilton. Harold Francis Beed, who did not appear, was ordered to; pay 15s a week maintenance of his child, and also hospital expenses amounting to £ls 7s 9d at the rate of 5s weekly. Costs amounting to £3 3s were allowed to complainant, who was represented T»y Mr T. F. Brosnan.
