' 1,T ~ " HIGH STREET FENEWALS. "The worlt is actually ahead schedule end all concerned with it «re deserving of praise," said the chairman of the Cliristchureh Tramwpy Board (Mr E. H. Andrews), at yesterday s meeting of that body when reporting on the reconstruction of High street. Mr Andrews said that the work commenced at midnight on Sunday, August flOth, the length of double track of concrete work to be renewed being 35 chains or 70 chains of single track. . . . The whole of ono sido" (35 chains) was excavated and all spoil removed on Friday, September 4th. Concreting commenced on Wednesday, Septswber 2nd, and the work was all completed on Friday, September 11th. The placing of the bituminous surface was comiKenced on Wednesdays September 9th, and the length from Hereford street to Tuam street was completed on. Saturday, September 12tb. . Work on the west track between Hereford street and Cashel street was commenced on Thursday, September 10th, and this portion was excavated and rails placed in position ready for concreting on Saturday, September 12th. If the weather had remained fine, the whole of the "in" track would have been completed on Saturday, September 12th. Duo to three days' delay, owing to weather conditions being unfavourable, this track would not be completed until WedaascUjr eight, provided the weather cleaved immediatelyIt bad been possible to keep the trackless trams operating along High street during the whole of the time that tl)« »i*
