lie monthly meeting of the Syaen-ham-Cashmere-Sproydon sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held on Friday, September 4th, when there were present; Mrs.-;A. F. \Viughfc (in the chair),• Mosdames J. K. Archer, Phillip Greenwood, A. W. Hale, J. I. Sinail, C. Oppenheim, F. 12. Blackmore, It. "W. Morgan, P. Delargey, E. 0, Gaines, It. R. D. Milligan, and H.. Wales. Apologies were received;,; from Mesdames H. A. Young, I). Reese, M. Poulseh,- L. Clark, and 'Mifcs Bowron. Final arrangements were'- made for a skating party to be held early in the week and for Violet Day. Nurse Bowron reported as follows: Sydenham: Adults _ 144, babies 122, older children 46, nine visits, two wet days, six new cases. Spreydon: Adults 75, babies 70, older children 23, four visits, one new case. General health fairly good. Subscriptions were received from Mrs J. Poulsen, Miss Lyons, Mrs E. I>. Mosley, Mrs Gibbs, Mrs Coop, Mrs F. Clark, Mrs Deans, and donations from Mrs Champion, Mrs Mazey, and warm clothing from Mrs W. D. Johnstone. BALL AT METHVEN. The children's annual fancy dress ball, under the auspices of the Methven Plunket Society, was held in the Town Hall on Friday night. The hall was decorated with streamers of many colours, and the lounge room was gay with shrubs and spring flowers. There "was again a very large attendance of children, as well as adults, nearly a hundred and twenty children parading in fancy costume in the Grand March while later in the evening there was a parade of adults in fancy costume. Tho early part .of the .evening was entirely devoted to a children's dance, into which the youngest as well as the older ones entered with zest. Later on tho adults' dance was hold.

Among the many visitors present were Mesdames H. L. Seldon (president), Laing, Misses Gates (2), and Birnie, of the Ashburton branch of the Society. The difficult task of judging the many fancy costumes was again allotted to Mr V. Simpson, of Tinwald, whoso awards save general satisfaction. After the.children's dance, Mr J. W. M. Dart, chairman of the local Advisory Committee, explained the good work done by thb ■ Society, and thanked all present forr their support of the Society's funds. He then called on Mrs Seldon, president of the Ashburton branch, to present the prizes to the winners of the various classes. A word of praise is due to the president, Mrsi Hector Keid, the hon. secretary, Mrs D. Chambers, and the members of the local committee for the great amount of detail work done in organising the ball so successfully. The thanks of the Society are also due to those who gave prizes for the children. Tho dance music was provided by Bryson's Band (Christchurch), and the dutios of Master of Ceremonies were carried out by Mr. Dan Petrie (children's session), and Mr Sf-4 B. Owers (adults' dance). WOODBURY JUBILEE BALL. -Both iri point of numbers and in the fine spirit of kindliness and goodfellowship that prevailed, the school jubilee ball, held in the Coronation Hall, Woodbury, on 'Friday night, was a;great success. Over 200 couples were present. . Unusual decorations, representing a snowfall on which played coloured lights, mado the whole scene very effective. Spirited music was supplied by Campbell's Orchestra, and extras were played ljy Mrs Brown, Mrs M. Metcalf, Miss M. Lysaght, and Mr M. Evans. Mr R. Woods, Mr A. Webb, and Mr W. Lewis were M.C.'s. Tho grand march was led by Mr J. Fifield (the chairman) and Mrs Anderson. The lucky spot waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Meynell, and the Monto Carlo by Miss Johnstone and Mr Hewitt.
