CANTERBURY FISHING STREAMS

TO THE EMTOB OF THE TEESS Sir, —In Teply to the letter on the above subject, signed bj' "Piscator," in Monday's issue of The Pkessi, surely "Piscator'' cannot be serious when he.suggests that the restriction should have been from oue hour after sunset until one hour before dawn. As an ardent fisherman, and one who knows'! bow.,to use a 6oz fly rod both in daylight and after dark, nothing seemß inoro ridiculous than the above proEosal. To a limit of 15 fish per 24 ours I- have no objection whatever, but to a Ihhitatibnof hours, certainly. Wein town are not all able ;to get

out to the rivers during daylight, 4 but some oj: us are keen enough to get out when we cart (for the evening's fishing): Bags of thirty fish for one rod in an evening, even by using the bully (which method I do not use myself) are not at all common, except perhaps in the Halswell. at the very beginning of the season; For "Piscator" to suggest taking the control from the Society and placing it in .the hands of the Government Departments is ludicrous in the extreme, when one remembers what , happened under Government control during last, season's salmorj period on the Waimakariri. In conclusion, as an out-and-out fly. fisherman, I cannot see why,any of us should be barred from fishing at night, since we cannot always fish during the day, not 'being Johnny on the Spot, as it were. Also the revenue derived from the license money of those few who fish at night would just about stock all the rivers for the season.—Yours, etc., BROWN BEETLE. Shirley, August 31st, 1931.
