BALL AT PREBBLETON.
The Public Hall at Prebbleton assumed an unusually festive appearance when the benedicts of tlie district entertained a large number of guests, who included visitors from most of the surrounding centres and from Christchurch. A strong committee with Mr W. T. Carpenter and Mr L. Gallagher as executive ofEoers, had made excellent arrangements for the comfort and entertainment of theii friends, who enjoyed to the full the warm hospitality extended to them. A clever arrangement of multi-coloured paper streamers concealed the ceiling and walls of the ballroom, while large clusters of foliage and tubs of flax and greenery arranged on the stage made an effective background for the dancers' pretty frocks. Jackson's Band supplied the dance music and extras were played by Mrs K. Hammond. Mr and Mrs R. Macpherson (Ladbrooks) ! were the winners* of a lucky spot waltz, and the Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Poppy Hammond and Mr J. . Kennedy. Messrs W. Carpenter and | G.
