Mr E. C. Huie returned yesterday from a visit to Wellington. Dr. C. Coleridge Farr returned from Wellington by tbe ferry steamer yesterday morning. Sir James Gunson (Auckland) was a passenger frdm Wellington by tne ferry steamer yeterday morning and is staying at the United Service Hotel. Profesor H. G. Denham, Sir James Allen, M.L.C., and Mr L. F. de Berry were among the arrivals from Wellington by the ferry steamer yesterday morning. Mr C. E. Weston Wacher, LL.M., who his been for the last year in London studying English Law, is returning to New Zealand by the Remuera on September 6th. His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy will preside at the sittings of the Suprem® Court, Christchurch, from September 14th during the absence of his Honour Mr Justice Adams on the West Coast and at .the Court of Appeal. Mr F. W. Freeman returned yesterday from Hawera, where he attended the annual conference of the North Island Motor Union. Together with North Island motor representatives, be gave evidence concerning highway & 1 " ances before a Select Committee w Parliament. The Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, th® Bishop of Aotearoa, who is paying M* annual visit to the South Island Maoris, returns to Christchurch fe*® l the West Coast to-day. He will be at Tuahiwi to-morrow, and on Monday evening will give a lecture in the Jelhcoe Hall. Bishop Bennett will lea** for the south on Wednesday. Mr George M. Smith has been elected to fill the vacancy on. the Board of ernors of St. Andrew's College, caused by the death of Mr J. G. Herdman.
