A few weeks ago Mr A. L>. Smith, Chief Constable of Glasgow, learned fioiu liis medical adviser that he was suffering from.an incurable illness, and could not expect to live for more than a few weeks. He immediately proceeded to reorganise liis staff, and gave instructions how the work was to be carried, on when death claimed him. His work accomplished, Mr Smith died at his home in June. His age was 54. He was appointed chief constable in April, 1932,
An insert bite on the face caused tb" death, of Doris' Cissie Coston, aged 22, it was revealed at. the inquest at Ealing, England, Doris who was a' strong healthy girl, felt a sting while at 'business oil June 3rd. About a week later she developed a,-temperature and was removed to the hospital, where she died shortly after. The house- surgeon said that the cause of death was an abscess in a vein, at the base of the brain- set tip- by the bite. Even had she received treatment earlier the tragedy could not have been avoided.
