A large tenement house in a suburb of Lyons was wrecked by a mysterious explosion at 2.30 a.m. The building was occupied by and Algerian working-class families of whom 30 were buried in the • ruins. JPiremen rescued 12, who were iakon to the hospital and recovered five bodias. but ten children are believed still to be entombed. The wreckage blocked the street and rescuers heard the horrifying cries o£ the trapped inmates. Doors and windows were blown out and glass was splintered 500 yards from the scene.
