Coumbe, of the Greymouth RailwAy Booking office, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch, where lie will begin his duties nest Monday. Mi's Allan Smith left yesterday for Ohristchurch on her way to Martinborough to attend the funeral of her brother, Mr J. W. Kershaw. The members of the Railway Board, accompanied by the General Manager o Mr H. H. Sterling, arrived at Inangahua Junction yesterday to inspect the Buller line. They return to Christcliurch to-morrow. Melville, who has been an inmate of an hospital in Christchurch, returned to Greymouth on Thursday. Obituary. The death occurred yesterday jit Hukarera of Mr John Phelan, aged 82. He was a native of Waterford, Ireland, and had been on the West Coast for the past 60 years, most of which he had spent farming in the Grey \ alley He is survived by nine daughters and four sons. His wife died eleven vears ago. ~ , A pioneer settler in South W estland Thomas Condon, died last night, aged 90 years. They will be drawn from pupils attending the Grey Main, Cobden, M&rist, Dobson, Paroa, Runanga, Eoss, and Greymouth Convent Schools. They will return to Greymouth on Thursday. A party of about twenty will leave for Christchurch on Thursday night, comptieing pupils from Taylorville fechoo!. Besides visiting the Show, the school children will visit various factories and mills in Christchurch. Music Examination. Word has been received that Miss Jessie McNichol has been successful in 1 passing the Theory examination in Rudiments of Music held under the Associated Board of the Koyal Academy and Royal College of Music, London. Women' 6 Guilds. At Ilokitika yesterday afternoon the St. Androw's Ladies' Guild entertained the members of th 6 other local Guilds, All Saints' and the Methodist Church. Mrs Parkhill (president of the St. Andrew's Guild) extended a welcome to the visitors. A musical programme was presented, and afternoon tea partaken of. At the conclusion Mesdamcs Knowles Smith (Methodist), and ■ Knights (All Saints') expressed their appreciation of the hospitality extended their Guild?. Golf. ' ' In the qualifying rounds played for the A. and B. championafiips of the Ho- ' kitika Golf Club, those qualify were: A. Championship—Chesney 81, Adamson 87, Steel 89, Darby 89, Neville 91, Finnerty 95, Irwin 100, Houston 102. In the B.
