THREE MEN ARRESTED.

ALLEGED BREAKING AND ENTERING. (r&ESS ASSOCIATION TELEQEAII.) WELLINGTON. August 14. In the course of their investigations in connexion with the .reported armed robberies in the suburbs of Wellington during the. past week. Detective Mo. Lpnnan and Constable Scarry arrested two men at Petono *at 10 o'clock last night on a charge of attempted breaking and entering. Detective McLennan communicated with- the Detective Office, Wellington, and as a result of certain information which lie supplied, detectives went to Abel Smith street, where they arrested at 3 a.m. u third man on a cliarga of breaking, entering, and theft. When tha man's lodgings were subsequently searched, the detectives found a mask, automatic pistol, ammunition, and two bludgeons. Leslie Gordan Clarke, 22, and Sidney John Hodge, 35, were charged in tha Magistrate's Court. Petono, with attempted breaking and entering on July 31st of ihe Self-Help Co-op. Store, Jackson street, with intent to commit theft. Thoy were remanded to appear at Wellington on August 22nd William Edward Brown, a cabinet* n'aker, a sod 27, appeared before Mr E. Page, S.M.. at the Magistrate's Court, and was remanded until August 27th on a charee of breaking and entering the warehouse of the Saracen Shoo Company and stealing goods valued at £6.
