NOTEWORTHY EXHIBITS.
AT THE WINTER SHOW. Acclaimed by all as the best to date, this year's Winter Show is particularly conspicuous for its very fine display of modern machinery in working exhibits. The exhibit of Lane, Walker, and Budkin, Ltd., features the manufacture of underwear, etc., covering a very extensive range. Also featured in the display are some excellent examples of dress materials j and blazer cloths in popular fashionable designs. Outerwear is another specialty of this 1 Firm, as shown by the splendid fabrics and patterns in Cardigans, Pullovers, and Lumber Jackets made on the latest type Jacquard machines. Tho history of the Firm is unique. Stai ing 42 years ago in a small room with six employees, it now covers an area of three acres in Christchurch and 10 in Ashburton, with the most up-to-date plant in the Dominion, and with a payroll of over 400 members. Such has been tho confidence of the r iblic in "Canterbury" brand goods that, in spite of the economic depression, this Firm has always worked full time in every Department, and not a single employee has lost a day's work. With the public's further support it is quite obvious that a considerable number of additional hands could bo employed, thereby relieving the unemployed situation. In viewing this exhibit, one is struck by the fact that hero is a Firm which manufactures all that anyone could possibly desire in tho finest quality under and outerwear for men, women, and children. This Firm owes its remarkable growth to its efficient management in tho production of the famous "Canterbury" brand products. —1 Another new departure in local manufacture! which will interest tennis enthusiasts is the Brooks tennis racquets, which arc now being made in Christi church. These racquets havo proved their distinct quality in performance on the court?, while in price they comparo more than favourably with any imported. Made from the best selected | English ash, with reinforced shoulder piece and cedar handle grips, they aro bound in silk and strung with the best quality gut. A comprehensive display in varied weights and sizes to suit all tennis players will be seen at Stand No. 4 at tlic Winter Show. • —2 Tho unique exhibit of tho Utility Tea Company, which uses as its slogan tho appropriate title "The aristocrat of teas," displays a very fine assortment of liigh grade blends. This company, which has recently been formed, l)ut who aro not in any way associated with tho lato company that bore the same name, aro. able to provido the housewife with a really high grade tea at a very reasonable cost. Attractive gifts are offered by the proprietors in return for coupons that are inserted in every packet. A house-to-house canvassing campaign has been to give further publicity to '■3)bth- the gift scheme, and to a commodity that will prove by its merits economic saving. —-3 . An exhibit that attracts much public attention is that of "Purito," which is known as the safe disinfectant. This line, which is manufactured by the proprietors of the Tai Tapu Dairy Co., besides a most reliable disinfectant, possesses many other valuable uses ; it utterly destroys all bacteria, yet is non-poisonous. It removes stains from linen, and cotton goods, and is equallv effective in the same direction for cleaning porcelain baths, sinks, and glassware. For wounds, cuts,- sore throats, etc., it has proved to be a most valuable remedy, directions for the numerous uses to which "Purito" can be put are contained with every bottle. No housewife should be without this valuable commodity, which, although _ much stronger than carbolic as a disinfectant, is perfectly safe, soothing, and a wonderful germicide. —4 (i Pilsener Lager, a product of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., also display a descriptive exhibit of this palatable production, which by virtu© of its Superior lager " characteristics has been ranked by connoisseurs as eijual to tho world's best.
