Tli© Council of the Jnvercargill Chamber oi' Commerce to-4ay passed a resolution that tho '.Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts bo requested to furnish a statement of revenue and expenditure connected with the Milford resort, with a view to the Chamber submitting suggestions for minimising the lose. In introducing the subj6ct, Mr John Gilkison said the costs of Government and Government expenditure in all directions needed to be drastically curtailed. Ho wished to move that the Minister be asked to furnish a statement of the capital outlay on the track, the hostol, and all branches of the service, including the gross takings and expenditure, and that the Minister bo informed that if a return was supplied tho Chamber might be able to offer suggestions for reducing the heavy loss. I Mr I<. 8. Spencer said tho oxpendi- j tare on the hostel buildings had been [ fur too lavish. Tho Milford Hostel ! was much too elaborate, and was ahead ' of its time. ==• j
