NEW BRIGHTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
• ♦— MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the New. Brighton District High School was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs W. M. Sexton (chairman), B. Dean, F. W. Larcombe, D.* Turner, E. A. Robinson (secretary), and Mesdames H. O. Brooks. M. Moses, and J. Bellamy, and the headmaster (Air R. S. Pearson). The chairman read a statement showing accounts outstanding to amount to £SB 8s Bd.* The committee had approximately £lO in hand, leaving a debit of £4B 8s . Bd. It was decided to mako further representations to the Education Boardregarding a grant of £3O, and various replacements to the school. The secretary's .action with regard to the picture benefit was endorsed. A lengthy discussion took place regarding the sand-pit in the western part of the school playground, it being decided, on the motion of the secretary, to approach the Education Board to have the pit filled in sand. The chairman reported upon a recent meeting of the dental clinic committee. It was decided that the Dental Clinic Committee be empowered to arrange for a combined concert by the Burwood, Araiiui, North Beach, and New Brighton schools. A letter was received from the Canterbury Education Board advising that the committee's application for replacements of buildings and screenings to cover the grounds where the ojd buildings. stood . Bad been handed to the architect for investigation. The headmaster's report stated that the health and attendance of the children had been very good during the past month. Owing to the generosity of several residents it had been possible to provide milk and cocoa lor a "large number of children during the winter mouths. On July 6th, 7th, and Bth, the school was inspected by the Department's inspectors, and following upon this, the medical officers examined the children. The schools' tournament in basketball and football would take place this week, four teams having been entered in the former and nine in the latter.
The report stated that to date nothing had been done toward the replacement of the lavatory, fuel shed, and bicycle shed, which had been removed when the buildings were dismantled. The trees and shrubs presented by Mr Young had been planted The report drew attention to the resignation of Miss Broome, who had been appointed infant mistress at W aiwhetu School, Lower Hutt. Members of the committee spoke of the valuable work done by Miss Broome during her six years' association with the school, and it was decided to send her a letter of appreciation. It was decided to hold future meetings of the committee on the first Wed-, nesday in each month.
