Donniston, of Dunedin, Trio on Sunday, celebrated his eighty-sixth birthday, was honoured by members of tho Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, of •which he is a life-member, at the annual meeting. Only the previous day, hs admitted, lie had celebrated his birthday. He was thankful to say that he still enjoyed good health, notwithstanding his advancing years. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand "Wool Brokers' Association, Mr A. E. Mabin, of Messrs Levin and Co., Wellington, was elected president ami Mr J. B. Moodie, of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Wellington, vice-president, in succession to Mr W. C. Brydon, of th« National Mortgage and Agency .Co., Christcliurch, and Mr Jas. Haling, of Pyne. Gould, Guinness, Ltd., Christchurch, who have held the office of president and vico-president respectively for tlie last two years. Mr John Eeid, principal of the Sonth Otago High School, has resigned his position. Mr T. D. Pearce, ex-princi-pal of the Southland Boys' High School, has been appointed relieving principal, and commenced his duties immediately. Mr Eeid, who was for many years a , master at the Otago Boys' High School, was not due for retirement until til ' end of this year, but, as injuries » ceived by him in an accident recent? made it advisable for him to have three months' leave of absence, he his resignation. A distinguished anatomist, Professor William Wright, of London, will arrin in Wellington by the Monowai from Sydney on September 7tli, and after visting various parts of the Dominion will leave Auckland for Vancouver oa September 22nd. During his stay in Wellington he will be the guest of Sir Donald McGavin. Professor Wright and Professor Buckmaster are a.t present in Australia conducting primary examinations, the former in anatomy, nnd tho latter in physiology. Professor Wright is Professor of Anatomy hi the London Hospital Medical School) and formerly held a similar position at tho Middlesex Hospital Medical School and at Birmingham Medical School.* Tho nominations of Victoria College for Rhodes Scholarships are Messrs JL E. Mahoney and B. A. Paetz. Mr M* honey, who has taken the LL.B. degree, is a senior Rugby footballer and htwa a triple Victoria University Cow boxing Blue and double New ZcU&Bjj University boxing Blue. He been prominent in connexion military training and has been actiW® club organisations, being a member ® many dub committees. He is at.P"" sent attending the Teachers' Trains# College at Wellington.
