PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. (FKOH OCB OWN CORBEgrO.NDKKT.) LONDON, July 10. Mr I{. I). Townsend (Canterbury College), who for the last two years lias been reading philosophy at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and last month was placed in the First Class of the Moral Science Tripos, Part 11., has been admitted to tlie degree of 15.A. In August Mr Townsend is going out to New Zealand for a short holiday trip. An engagement announced this week, of Now Zealand interest, is that between Mr J. 11. F. Moat, the Green Howards, only son of the late John F. M<mt, of Collin House, Duumurry, County Antrim, and Mrs Moat, and Miss Norrie Fcnwick, cider daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Fcnwick, of -Brinkburn, Dunedin. Mr and Airs J. K. Olney (formerly of Christchurch and now resident in Ceylon) are 011 a visit to England, and are staying at Bexhill-on-Sea. Mr and Mrs Ivon A. Watkins (Christchiircb) arc tremendously enjoyijig their visit to the Mother Country, particularly as they have had the opportunity of attending so many functions and conferences of note. They were in Scarborough for the Oddfellows' meetings, and tho biennial conference at Southampton of the Druids' Lodge. Then, of course, they were present at all tho gatherings arranged to celebrate the ]ooth anniversary of the reforming ofthe Order of St. John of Jerusalem, to which Mrs Watkins came as delegate from the Christchurch Committee' Qf the St. John Association. This week, the latter has been speaking at the conference of the Mothers' Union at Mary Sumner House. She and licr husband* were also present at tho annual meeting of the Royal Life-Saving Soeicty, in May, presided over by Lord Desborough. They are now about to make a tour in Wales and tlie Midlands, and on September 12th they will leave by the Orontes 011 their homeward journey. Mr and Mrs . Sydney Chapman, their sou, and two daughters (Christchurch') have been taking part in many of tho functions arranged in connexion with the celebrations of the Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem, all of which, of course, havo been greatly enjoyed. Miss Dorothy Home (late of Nelson), who has been staying in Ireland with relatives for some time, is giving there a song recital. Miss Home studied in London for a considerable time under Bizetti, and she has a very fine soprano voice. . . .- * . ,Mr and Mrs James Catherwood and Miss Maida Catherwood (Christchurch) have been travelling through the United States nud Canada, and since arriving in the Mother Country they have been touring in Devonshire and Cornwall. A Continental tour is about (0 be embarked upon, and then, en route to Scotland, the English Lakes will bo visited. Early in November the travellers will leave for home, via Australia. Mrs S. D. Shortly alter arriving *n the Mother Country, Miss Billcliff was married to Mr. Neale, li.E, (Eloc.), of Birmingham. Their homo will ho in' the Mother Country lor approximately two'years, and during the summer they have planned a tour of a number of the English cathedral cities. ' Dr. and Mrs P. A. Ardagh (Christchurch) jhaTe 'been living at a flat in Wimpole Street lor some little time, but they aro leaving London for 8 motor tour in Ireland. They are going via Bath, Bristol, and Gloucester to Fishguard. From Cork' they will go by .way id Killarney and Limerick through Ireland. Then, from Dublin and Hulyhead, they will travel in the English Lake district and make a brief round in Scotland. In August Dr. and Mrs Aidaglr will go to Paris to be present at the International Radium Conference. The next two months will bo devoted to Stockholm, Berlin, and Vienna; I'ollowing that will come an Italian tour, ombracing Florence, Venice, and Rome. At the beginning of October Dr. ana Mrs Ardagh expect to return to London from Lourdes, and tiiey are thinking of leaving in November, for America. The homeward journey will be made by way of Japan, China, Singapore, and Australia! and Christchurch should be reached about next March. Yesterday afternoon, there was another pleasant reunion of members ot the New Zealand Women's Association. This "At-.Homo'' took place at the ; Metropole Hotel, where a dainty tea was served, and tho eighty people present spent two lnippy hours. Lady Wilford received the guests with members of the committee, who included Lady Sahnond, Miss Violet Russell, Mrs S. G. Raymond, Mrs A. M. Michie, and Mrs C. J. Wray. Lady Liverpool was' present for' a little while. Among the.members, with their friends, .were; Lady Sim, Mrs R.' Mill, Mrs T. B. Cbing, Mrs H. L. Friend, Mrs Lindo Levien, Mrs and Miss Handvside, Mrs M. West, Mrs I. W. Raymond, Mrs A. T. Chapman, Mrs Durrand, Mrs Fitchctt, Mrs Nairn, Mrs Alan Rose, Mrs and Miss Corliss, Mrs Toms, Airs H. T. B.
