PERSONAL. VSPIOIAL <lO THE PRESS., GREYMOUTH, August 12. Major Suter, Divisional, Commander of the Salvation Army, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned yesterday. to Christchurch. A wedding of interest to West Coasters recently took place at Tripoli, at St.George 'a Church, when Mjss Youmna Saraty, daughter of Mr and Mrs Theo Saraty, formerly residents of Kumara, •was married to Mr Nahme Mozayteh. Mr and Mrs Hugh Steel left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs A. .Mi Mclntyre, who has been visiting Christchurch, returned yesterday. Messrs J. O'Brien; j. Dodds, N. Griffiths, J. .Masters, and J. Calder, who have been chosen to play in the South Inland League team, left yesterday for Christchurch in company of Mr Con Hall, who is to manage'the team, and Mr A. Anisy. ' Mr G. E. J. Taylor, goods foreman at the Westport railway office, has retired on superannuation, after 3? ycars' service. He was farewelled by the staff and presented with a travelling rug. Mr R. Johnson left to-day on holiday to Christchurch. Mr T. P. Ryan left last evening for Christchurch. Mr E. Williams, left yesterday on a holiday trip to New Plymouth. Otira, Tunnel. The amount of coal, timber, and other goods Tailed through the Otira tunnel from the West Coast last week was 10,521 tons, compared with 12,264 tons l'or the corresponding period last year and 14,205 tons in 1929. A. and P. Association. The annual meeting of the Inangahua A. and P. Association was held last evening. tho president, Mr J. B. Discaciati, presiding over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £6O 13s 2d. The secretary suggested that at future shows all outside side-shows should be barred, and that the club should run its own. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr D. Panckhurst; vice-president, Mr H. Campbell; patrons. Messrs E. W. Spencer, J. G. Black,. H. E. Holland, M.P., and J. O'Brien, M.P.; committee, all present, with power to add; treasurer, Mr W. P. Auld; secretary, Mr H. Kearns; auditor, Mr P. H. In stone. The secretary's suggestion, that in future side-shows by outsiders be barred, ivas carried as a recommendation to the incoming committee. Inter-Club Debate. In the inter-club debate for the Stuart Cup to-night, St. Coluinba (Grey- i mouth) beat St. Mary's (Hokitika) by 291 points to 273, on the subject, "That a White Australia is Just.'| To-night's debate gavo the clubs a win each. The final is to take place at Hokitika. Ulna Manager Fined. A mine manager, Chas. Buist, of the Charming Creek Coal Company, was fined £2, in the Westport Court to-day, •a & charge, laid by the Inspector of
Mines, of. failing to havo the mine properly ventilated, as required by the mining regulations. He pleaded guilty. Obituary. The death occurred to-night of Mr Thos. Brebner," at the Grey Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr Brebner recently retired from the position of shipping clerk in the State Mines, a position he had held for many years. He wa& a prominent bowler and past president' of the Gre} r mouth Bowling Club. He is survived by his Vridow, two sons, and one daughter.
