was in the i'nteresti of committees generally to allow them to decide what charge should be made. The charge should not exceed 5s per year for each child. The Minister for Education (the Hon. 11. Atmore) wrote expressing his pleasure that the committees.were prepared to assist in the present very difficult times. Ileplying i.o the Abauci&tiuy s protest against the use of imported timbers in Canterbury schools, the Canterbury Education Board wrote stating that tlio Board* instructions to its officers were that New Zealand timber should be used wherever possible. At the last meeting of the Board, an assurance had been x - eceived that these instructions wero being adhered to. The secretary (Mr S. R. Evison) reported on the meeting of the Dental
Clinics Committee and the deputation to members oi Parliament at Wellington 011 August Gth. It was decided to communicate with the Education Department asking what was the amount of saving being made as a result of the consolidation of schools, to he set off against the increased conveyance charges. It was decided to circularise Canterbury Members of Parliament asking them to stress the need to attack the special expenditure before any reduction was made in the general provision for elementary education.
