HOMESTEAD DESTROYED.
BLAZE AT RLSSLEY. Fire destroyed the Husslcy homestead, a two-storey wooden building at th.? corner of "Coringa road and Russley road, occupied by Mr J. Warren, at about 10.30 a.m. yesterday. The firo started iu the kitchen chimney, and, j fanned by the north-westerly gale, ! swept from end to end of the building i in ten minutes, and in half an hour ; only smouldering embers remained. ! The old liouse burned fiercelv, aud the flames leaped thirty feet to the front gate, which was destroyed. From the gate the fire spread to a macrocarpa hedge, and then to a gorse hedge on ttio opposite side of the road, damaging it for a considerable distance. A stable con tain in rj; about four tons ot' chaff was threatened, line it was saved. A few personal belongings wove .saved from the house. [ live; Now 'Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade received a call at 11.25 a.m. yesterday to some burning undergrowth on the Richmond Terrace Reserve, South Brighton. The blaze was soon extinguished and the possibility of a more "serious lire owing to the nor'-west, gale was avoided.
