THE CANDIDATES SELECTED. PRAISED AS SPLENDID TYPE OF MEN. Tho Reform candidates coming forward for tho next; election were(described by Mr H. M. Campbell, M.I • (Hawke's Bay) as "a splendid typo of men," in tho course of an interview vesterday. Ho did not know c South Island so well, though he presumed that tho same thing was happening here. In tho North Island the crisis had resulted in bringing political life men of a very htgi calibre.
Ho mentioned, as instances,. Mr W. J. Holdswortb, chairman of tho Auckland Power Board, and president of tho Land Development League, now tho official Reform candidate for Ro&kill, and Mr J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, another very prominent business man in Auckland, who had come forward in tho interests of Reform. Then there was Mr Karle Vaile, the candidate for ltotorua, one of the beat known men in New Plymouth the Reform candidate was Mr, W. Middleton, while in Pahiatua the popular Mayor of Dannevirke, Mr Marcus Smith, had accepted the Reform nommation. One of the younger candidal ; in the North Island was Mr J. IJ. Orumnd, who would contest the Waipawa electorate. In Wellington Mr G. A. Troup had been adopted as official Reform candidate for North, while Sir James Parr, the official candidate for Waiknto, would bo welcomed back into political 1 ife. Looking over, tho whole personnel of between 50 and 60 Reform candidates already in the field, Mr Campbell believed it was probably the strongest team of candidates that had ever entered a General Election campaign.
