COUNTRY FOOTBALL.
TO TIIS EDITOE or THE TRESS. Sir, —Last-Saturday was a red-letter day for football in Mt. Somers, and I want to praise the referee in the Mount Somers-Springburn match. His whistle and prompt decisions, and absolutely unbiased ruling were the admiration of tho whole of the spectators. With regard to referees in general, at most of the football matches I have attended I have nearly always found tho spectators a bit one-sided, and thejr nearly always voice their opinions too loud. They do not realise that a referee's job is a voluntary one, and that they often have long journeys, and are out of pocket for expenses, all for the good of the game, and are often subject to abuse and criticism for doing their duty. I often think that the Referees' Association does not come in to the limelight nearly, enough, as I am sure they are of as much importance as our Rugby Unions Yours. etc., ' STAVELEY. August sth, 1931.
TO THE EDITOR 01? THJ! PEESS. Sir, —I see in the Kirwee notes that, the final for the football shield is to be played at Sheffield. I think Sheffield are catered for too much in that way. Springfield have as many representative players as any other team in the Malvern Sub-Union, but no one can remember a representative game ever being played on the Springfield ground. —Yours, etc., TURN-ABOUT. Springfield, August 4th, 1931.
