At th* weekly meet ins of the, Winchester Ladies' Miniature Rifle Club last week, interterest centred round the competition for a trophy presented by Mr T. It. Shield. The trophy was won by Miss M. j | FRENCH MOTORISTS. ONE IN 27 OF THE POPULATION. Franco is rapidly catching up Great Britain in the total number of motorcars in use. The latest figures show that Great Britain has 1,558,032 cars, while France has 1,520,501. The United States heads the world's list with 25,500,000 cars, but Germany has only 658,086. One person in every 27 in France now has a car, and last year 255,111 cars were manufactured, of which only 31,158 were exported. Oars imported (mostly American) last year. numbered only 78S1. , . . The revenue received by the French ' Treasury from the motor-car tax (not including revenue from motor spirit) was £7,SBo>doo. . The Board of Trade estimated recently that in 1929 in the United Kingdom 45.7 per thousand of the population owned cars. • ,
