Mason), and Shipping and Seamen, Amendment (Mr Mason). Oorrency Bill. Explaining the Cuxrenoy Bill, Mr E G. B. Mason (Lab., Auckland Suburbs) said it proposed that currency . should be under the control of people independent of both the Government of the day and the private banks. Ths amount of currency in circulation should be so regulated that price levels would be constant. There should be a solid basiß for confidence so that the business of the country could be eonducted on an even keel. There would be no periods of depression or in* flation. The currency problem was fao ing most countries of the world, and it might be said it was not for New Zealand to take the lead in endeavour ing to adjust the situation. New Zea» land, however, -had always been aotup ated by the pioneering spirit, and fee was confident' it was well suited to takfl the initiative in a matter of'this ldn4» There would never be progress ifeacl* nation waited for the other nation # take the lead. Elertttal System. . Introducing the Electoral Amendment Bill, Mr C. H. Glinkard (U, Botorna) said he was satisfied there should an absolute majority ill «o®r nexion withi General Elections..
