PERSONAL. (srcciu. TO THE PKESS.) GREYMOUTH, June 25. Mr Vincent Foreman (Westport) i? visiting Greymouth. Mr J. A. Shannon, from Taihape, has taken up his duties as Chief Clerk of the Publio Works Office at Greymouth. Mrs V. Jennings, of the Railway offiee at Ngahere, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch, Mrs H. E. Holland and Misses Agues Holland and iTean Smith arrived last night from Westport, and proceed, to Hokitika, where the wedding of Miss Holland to Mr V. Foreman, is to take place Dext Monday. Mr and Mrs P. N. Jeffreys (Christchurch) are visiting Greymouth. Mr W. Blair, of the Railway office. Christchureh, who has been spending a holiday in Westport, returned to-day. Mr 'William Rowe, who, for the past twenty-one years has been an employee of the Midland Sawinilling Company, and who is retiring on account of 'll- - was on Saturday presented with a purse of money from the Mananui Sawmill Company's employees. Mr E. B. Mabin, formerly manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Greymouth, and now at Nelson, is retiring from the service on superannuation after fifty years' service in the Bank.
Wedding. Tho wedding of Robert Stewart, second son of Mr and Mrs Blair, Reefton, and Bessie, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Prior, of Reefton, was celebrated yesterday, the Rev. W. Bell officiating. Miss A. Prior (sister of tho bride) was bridesmaid, and Mr J. Doran best man. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents. Mr and Mrs Blair left later for Greymouth on their honeymoon. Tall from Cycle. Mr Colin Bell, of'lnangahua Junction, sustained a severe injury to his arm as well a-s slight concussion through a fall from a motor-cycle in Wellington recently. He has been a patient of the Wellington Hospital, and is expected home in a few days to spend a holiday with his parents. Unemployment Levy. Charged with failing to pay the unemployment levy, Hugh Taylor, of Reefton, who appeared at the Reefton Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, stated that lie had not paid the levy and did not intend to do so. He was convicted and ordered to pay costs, £1 2s. Sharing Work. The proposals put forward recently by the Grey port watersiders for sharing work have failed, mainly qwing to the policy of tho companies' wharfingers, who have tho right to choose whom they shall employ. The suggestion lo share the work is also contrary to the regulations of the watersiders. For these reasons the scheme will not bo gone on with, Peter Datraon Cup. The Westland Football Association has confirmed the proposed date, August Ist, for a match with Canterbury for the Peter Dawson Cup. League Football. The West Coast Rugby League Centre at its last meeting investigated complaints mado against one of its referees regarding the conduct of matches, and while the referee in question, Mr Y. Armstrong, had the confidence of the Referees' Association, the Management Committee had resolved that he be debarred from taking charge of any matches until he had appeared before the committee and given evidence they required of him. Finally the matter was put in order when Mr Armstrong was afforded the opportunity of expressing his willingness to obey the dictates of tho Management Committee. Cold Weather. The last few days a cold snap has prevailed, the days being beautifully fine and sunny whilst heavy frosts take place at night. The Paparoa ranges, close to the town, are covered with snow much lower than is the case in cold weather generally. Millerton School. The trouble at the Millerton School has been overcome. The committee supplied the children with a meal to-day.
