ADDINGTON MARKET.
SMALLER ENTRIES. FAT LAMBS EASIEU. (ET CUP. COMMERCIAL EiIITOS.) Yesterday's market attendance cl(<i rot include many who lolled alony just to sec how the markets behaved. Most of them were there for business, either as seller or buyer. .The day was tho worst for ninny yoafrs, a cold biting wind with an occasional squally shower making conditions most uncomfortable. Most folk got away from tlic Yards as quickly as their business alloweo them. The store tiheep market existed in kttle more than name. Only a few pens were entered, and to a handful of buyers they did not appeal. The lat lamb entry was smaller than usual, but still large for such a late period of the year. Consequent on the casing in the export schedule, values came back by sixpence to a shilling a head, but it was quite a sound sale, with exporters operating freely. Fat sheep represented a big entry for the winter, and on the whole it was the best section of the market.' Wethers apparently are in demand, and tho export schedule permitted a slight finning for them, ewes, on the olher hand, being a shade weaker. The export schedule for the week is: To •iS's, wethers 4d a lb, owes '2i'(l: <l9-56's, wethers ewes 2£d; oC-7-i's, wethers 3Jd, ewes 7Jd; 65-72's, wethers L'Jd, over,-: 2Jd; seconds 3d a lb ; ewes for all weights over and seconds, ljd. On this basis there was quite a good sale. Fat eattlo included good North Island lines, and some very prime local cattle. The northern consignments sold moderately well, but it is understood that there wero several lines on the water during tho storm, and the possibilities are that losses will eat very substantially in these shipments into tho very bare margin of profit that tho present values permit. Mqst of the good beef yesterday ranged about -tfs to 2-3s per 1001b, and much serviceahlo quality sold at 'Js Gd or so less. The subsidiary section.; of the market atii\acted very Mttall entries, and in most cases a lifeless sale. STORE SHEEP. The offering of store sheep consisted of a few odd pens of ewes, wethers, and lambs, most of them plain sorts, whoso appearance was not improved by the rain. Not more than half a do/en farmers followed tho sale, which was a half-hearted affair, with passings as common as sales. Tho sales included a pen of attractive two-tooth linlfbred ewes, in lamb to Southdown rams, at 10s, two pens of small two-tooth halfbrnd wethers at 9s Gd and 10s sd. and a small lino Of halfbred ewe lambs nt 0s Gd. One pen of halfbred ewe lambs, fairly wc-11 grown, was passed at 13 s. FAT LAMBS. Tho entry of fat lambs was 2600, compared with 4000 last week. The quality was mixed, tho offering containing some exceptionally sood lines as well os a number of very plain ones. The schedule rates were down id' on first ffrado sorts, and Jd on ieconds v and this was fully reflected in the sale. Bidding was blacker, and values were weaker all round by a shilling a head. Values were:— Kxtra prime lambs, to 233 4d. Prime lambs, 18s Od to 20s, Medium lambs, 16s to 18s. Jjifrht lainbs, 12s Gd to 15s Gd. Store lambs, 9s 6d to 12s. Quality was mixed, good lines of bdtli wethers and ewes being in the minority. The sale was quite a good one, particularly for wethers, which showed a shad© of improvement in sympathy with tho slightly better wether schedule for export. However, ewe rates have eased, and the sale for'ewos yesterday was on a slightly easier basis. Freezing buyers wer» operating freely, taking as heavy a proportion as last week, but there was not tho 8»mo keenness as last week. Amongst tho outstanding lines was a pen of three wethers from A. Cowio (Hawarden), which made 25s Id, three others selling at 245, and another trio at 225. Top ewe price was 15s lOd, for a small pen from C. G. Jarman (Darfield). Values wepe:— Extra primo wethers, to -25s Id. Prime wethers, 17s to 19s 3d. Medium wethers, 14s to lGs Gd. Light wethers, lis to 13s Od. Extra prime ewes, to 15s 10(1. Prime ewes, 12s Gd to 14s Gd.
