WAIMAIRI RATES.
COUNCIL DECIDES ON REDUCTION. APPROXIMATELY 25 PER CENT. The estimates for the year 1931-32 for the Waimairi County were submitted at last night's meeting of the Council, and a reduction in the general rat© of approximately 25 per cent, in all the ridings was decided upon. , In order to make this reduction possible the following reductions in expenditure are to be made:—
Regarding salaries and wages, it was resolved that all employees receiving in excess of £lO4 per annum be reduced by 10 per cent., such reductioa to operate from July Ist next. It was decided that the question of the granting of & bonus to any employee be considered at the end of the financial year. The amounts standing to the credit of the various ridings at the beginning of the year were as follows: Styx £152,- Marshland £1390, Avon £639, Belfast £448, Harewood £1552, Papanui £504, Wairarapa £1668, Fendalc ton £2743, Middleton £IOBB. The rate struck for the various ridings and a comparison with that of last year is as follows:

Tree planting 200 to 25 Contingencies . . 1000 to 750 North road shoulders 105 to 58 Styx Riding— Motor grading 106 to 50 Hiding roads 493 to 12S Belfast Biding— Biding roads 264 to 23S Harewood Riding— Street lamps (increased £16) to 168 Middleton Riding— Middleton road widening .. 100 to nil
