DISCUSSION BY REFORM CAUCUS. [THE PBE3S Special Service.] WELLINGTON, Jun© 24. A denial that he had again declined to agree to suggestions for fusion was given in emphatic terms by the Leader of the Opposition (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) to-night. , A communication containing the memorandum urging fusion and signed by Auckland professional and business men was received by Mr Coates to-day, and he said to-night that when approached earlier in the day he had been mad© to say that his reply would be on the same lines as the answer he had given to the petition forwarded to tho Leaders of the two Parties some time ago by Wellington business men. Mr Coates said it appeared that his reply had been anticipated. He made no comment other than to say that tli memorandum would receive carerui consideration, and that a reply woui be given in duo course, probably in a day or two. The National Party suggestion was considered by-tho Reform Caucus to-day but the discussion was inconclusive. When interveiwed afterwards, air Coates said he admitted that the pioposal for a National Government was a worthy one, but, as he had intimated before, his Pasty was willing to afford tho Government assistance in the House.
